The spoons need a good wave to surf well, if it is a small wave it should be powerful and hopefully hollow; they won't make speed if it is under about shoulder to head high. the faster and bigger that wave is,the faster the board will go. these types of shapes rely heavily upon the wave being good to perform well; the less the wave is, the less the boards work.
